MCPD Arrest Report 02/23/2018

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 32 calls for service. The following persons were arrested as a result beginning on 02/22/2018:

Dequante Wesley 02222018

Dequante Wesley, 24 years of age, address: Roderick St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 02/22/2018 @ 8:08 a.m.

Charges: Warrant: Theft under $1,000

Dequante Wesley was located and arrested in the area of LA 182 on an active arrest warrant held by the Morgan City Police. The warrant stems from an investigation conducted by patrol officers on February 8, 2018, when Wesley allegedly took merchandise from a local business in the area of LA 182 without paying for it. Wesley had departed the scene prior to officer arrival therefore warrants were prepared for his arrest. Wesley was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Zachary Mahfouz 022222018

Zachary Mahfouz, 24 years of age, address: Second St. Berwick, La., arrested on 02/22/2018 @ 8:32 a.m.

Charges: Possession of SCH II CDS (Methamphetamine)
                 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Patrol officers came in contact with a subject acting in a suspicious manner in the area of MLK Blvd. Zachary Mahfouz was identified. According to reports, Mahfouz was found to be in possession of suspected Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia. Mahfouz was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Cody P. Pearce, 29 years of age, address: Rose St. Berwick, La., arrested on 02/22/2018 @ 10:45 a.m.

Charges: Warrant: F.T.A. to Pay Fine on 01/30/2018 (2 Counts)

Cody P. Pearce was located and arrested at the Morgan City Police Department on active arrest warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Pearce was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

Juan R. Torres Jr., 28 years of age, address: Stacy St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 02/22/2018 @ 10:45 a.m.

Charges: Warrant: F.T.A. to Pay Fine on 08/29/2017 (4 Counts)

Juan R. Torres Jr. was located and arrested at the Morgan City Police Department on active arrest warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Torres was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

Caitlin Martin 02222018

Caitlin Martin, 17 years of age, address: Sixth St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 02/22/2018 @ 7:12 p.m.

Charges: Theft under $1,000 (2 Counts)

Patrol officers responded to a local business in the area of LA 182 in regards to a theft. According to reports, officers arrived and Caitlin Martin was identified along with two other juveniles. During the investigation it was learned that the trio allegedly took items from two businesses in that area totaling $97.86. Martin along with the other two juveniles were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked. Martin was incarcerated and the two juveniles were released to guardians.

Calvin Singleton 02222018

Calvin Singleton, 35 years of age, address: Friendship Alley Amelia, La., arrested on 02/22/2018 @ 4:58 p.m.

Charges: Possession of SCH II CDS (Methamphetamine)
                 Possession of SCH II CDS (Oxycodone)
                 Obstruction of Justice
                 Battery on a Police Officer
                 Resisting an Officer

Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of US 90 for failing to signal a lane change. A stop was initiated and Calvin Singelton was identified as an occupant of the vehicle. According to reports, officers observed an empty pill bottle labeled Oxycodone fall from Singleton’s area. Singleton was allegedly observed attempting to ingest a white substance. Singleton pulled away from officers and attempted to run into traffic on US 90 with was prevented. A struggle ensued and captured the attention of several motorists passing in the area who stopped to assist officers in subduing Singleton. During the struggle, Singleton spits some of the substance in the face of the officer. Singleton eventually spits more of the substance onto the ground which he tried to destroy. Singleton was subdued and placed in a Morgan City Police Department Unit. A later search of that vehicle produced suspected Methamphetamine where Singleton was sitting that was cleared prior to him being placed in the unit. Singleton was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
