MCPD Arrest Report 04/06/2018

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 44 calls for service. The following persons were arrested as a result beginning on 04/05/2018:

Marco Rivas 04052018

Marco T. Rivas, 38 years of age, address: Addis, La., arrested on 04/05/2018 @ 3:52 p.m.

Charges: Unlawful Production of Fraudulent Documents

Patrol officers responded to the Department of Motor Vehicle in regards to a subject producing fraudulent documents in order to obtain a driver’s license. Officers arrived when Marco T. Rivas was identified. According to reports, Rivas allegedly admitted to the fraudulent documents. Rivas was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Chantal T. Burke, 24 years of age, address: Tiffany St. Patterson, La., arrested on 04/05/2018 at 4:50 p.m.

Charges: Simple Battery

Correctional Officers responded to the cell block due to a disturbance. According to reports, Chantal T. Burke was identified as striking another inmate during a verbal altercation. Burke was arrested and booked into the Morgan City Jail.

Jonathan Ruffin 04062018

Jonathan J. Ruffin, 30 years of age, address: James St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 04/06/2018 @ 1:58 a.m.

Charges: Driving While Intoxicated 1st Offense
                 Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway
                 Improper Lane Usage
                 Aggravated Flight from an Officer
                 Resisting an Officer
                 Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
                 Failure to secure registration
                 No Driver’s License
                 Resisting an Officer by Giving False Information
                 Warrant: F.T.A. for Hearing on 01/04/2018 (2 counts)
                 Warrant: F.T.A. for Arraignment on 12/01/2017

Patrol officers observed a vehicle be operated in the area of LA 182 in an erratic manner swerving from lane to lane. The officer attempted to initiate a stop when the vehicle fled. According to reports, the subject fled on LA 182 traveling at high rates of speeds before entering upon US 90. The subject traveled at speeds in excess of 90 m.p.h. operating the vehicle in an erratic manner showing no due to regard to other motorists. The subject pulled over onto the shoulder of US 90 and when they fled on foot. After a short chase, Jonathan J. Ruffin was apprehended and eventually identified. Ruffin allegedly provided officers with a false name upon initial contact. Ruffin was found to not possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License and the vehicle he was operating did not have proper registration. Ruffin was found to be in an intoxicated state. A firearm was located in the vehicle which Ruffin is prohibited from possessing due to being a convicted felon. Ruffin was also found to hold several active arrest warrants through the 16th Judicial Court. Ruffin was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail. One at the jail Ruffin performed poorly on Standardized Field Sobriety Test. Ruffin submitted to chemical testing registering .111g% blood alcohol content. Ruffin was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
