MCPD Arrest Report 04/13/2018

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 60 calls for service. The following persons were arrested as a result beginning on 04/12/2018:
Matthew Johnston 04122018

Matthew E. Johnston, 33 years of age, address: Tamar Ln. Austin, Tx., arrested on 04/12/2018 @ 9:06 a.m.

Charges: Warrant: Simple Burglary

Matthew E. Johnston was located and arrested at the Assumption Parish Detention Center on active arrest warrants held by the Morgan City Police. The warrants stem from an investigation conducted by the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division that began on October 2, 2017, in regards to a burglary of a vehicle that had occurred at a local business in the area of LA 182. According to reports, Matthew E. Johnston was identified as a suspect. The investigation continued when warrants were prepared for Johnston’s arrest. Johnston was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Sidney L. Wainwright, 21 years of age, address: Morgan City, La., arrested on 04/12/2018 @ 12:00 p.m.

Charges: Simple Battery

Correction Officers with the Morgan City Police Department Jail Facility responded to the cell block in regards to a disturbance. During the investigation, it was learned that Sidney L. Wainwright was one of the parties involved. According to reports, Wainwright allegedly struck another inmate during a verbal altercation. Wainwright was arrested and booked into the Morgan City Jail.

Devante Frank, 25 years of age, address: Bush St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 04/12/2018 @ 12:05 p.m.

Charges: Warrant: F.T.A. for Hearing on 03/15/2018

Devante Frank was located and arrested in the area of Federal Ave. on active arrest warrants held by the 16th Judicial Court. Frank was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Anthony D. Howard, 40 years of age, address: Freret St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 04/12/2018 @ 1:48 p.m.

Charges: Driving under Suspension
                 Disregard of Traffic Controls

Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of Fifth St. fail to stop at a stop sign. A stop was initiated when Anthony D. Howard was identified as the operator of the vehicle. According to reports, Howard’s Louisiana Driver’s License was found to be under suspension. Howard was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Shane Scott 04122018

Shane Scott, 34 years of age, Myra St. Franklin, La., arrested on 04/12/2018 @ 3:48 p.m.

Charges: Possession of SCH II CDS (Methamphetamine) W/I/T/D
                 Possession of Marijuana
                 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
                 Violation of Uniform CDS Law (Drug-Free Zone)
                 Driving under Suspension

Patrol officers responded to the area of Glenwood St. in regards to a subject attempting to sell illegal narcotics. A description of the subject was obtained and when officers arrived the located the subject in question in the area. Shane Scott was identified and appeared to be in some sort of intoxicated state. Scott was found to be in possession of suspected Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia. Evidence was uncovered that Scott was attempting to sell the Methamphetamine. Scott allegedly operated a vehicle to arrive in the area. Scott’s Louisiana Driver’s License was found to be under suspension. The area where this incident had taken place was within a Drug-Free Zone. Scott was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Tyler J. Sylvester, 18 years of age, address: Short St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 04/12/2018 @ 11:00 p.m.

Charges: Possession of Marijuana
                 Speeding 50 mph in a 30 mph zone
                 Improper Turning
                 No Driver’s License on Person

Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of Fifth St. negotiate and improper turn. The vehicle entered upon LA 182 and was observed traveling 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. A stop was initiated when Tyler J. Sylvester was identified as the operator of the vehicle. According to reports, Sylvester was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He also did not have his Louisiana Driver’s License on his person. Sylvester was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
