MCPD Arrest Report 08/31/2018

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 42 calls for service. The following person(s) were arrested as a result beginning on 08/30/2018:

Tajh P. Watson, 28 years of age, Address- Bergeron Lane Morgan City, La. was arrested on 08/30/2018 @ 1:30 pm


Charge: Resisting an Officer False Information
               Illegal Carrying of a Weapon
               Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
               Resisting an Officer by Force
               Battery on a Police Officer
               Possession of a Stolen Firearm
               Firearm Free Zone

     Officers responded to the area of Franklin St. and Federal Ave. in regards to individual knocking on doors. Officers made contact with the individual, who initially gave officers a false name, but later was identified as Tajh Watson. According to reports, when trying to detain Watson, he committed a battery one of the officers. Officers located a .40 caliber semi-automatic firearm in the waistband of Watson. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Watson was a convicted felon. A computer check also revealed that the firearm was stolen. The area in which Watson was located is considered a Firearm Free Zone because it is within 1000 ft. of an elementary school.  Watson was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.

Charles M. Gantt Jr, 61 years of age, Address- Aiken. SC was arrested on 08/30/2018 @ 6:52 pm.

Charge: Possession of Marijuana
               Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
               Violation of a Uniform CDS- Drug-Free Zone

     Officers working the fairground in the area of First and Greenwood St. observed an individual sitting in a vehicle. Officers made contact with the individual, Charles Gant and asked him to exit the vehicle. Reports indicate that an odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. Officers located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Gantt’s person. Also the area Gantt was located is considered a Drug Free Zone because it was within 1000 ft. of a church. Gant was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
