MCPD Arrest Report 07/13/2017

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 32 calls for service. The following persons were arrested as a result beginning on 07/12/2017:

Courtney Chenevert, 34 years of age, address: Keith St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 07/11/2017 @ 11:38 p.m.

Charges: Speeding 42 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone
                 Driving under Suspension
                 Switched License Plate
                 Resisting an Officer
                 Battery on an Officer
                 No Insurance

Patrol officers observed a vehicle traveling 42 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone in the area of Sixth Street. A stop was initiated at a residence in the area of Onstead St. at which time female later identified as Courtney Chenevert exited her vehicle and began walking past the officers attempting to enter the residence. Chenevert refused officers orders at which time the officer attempted to detain her. Reports indicate that Chenevert began to pull way and resist. Chenevert was placed under arrest and handcuffed at which time she allegedly committed a battery on the officer. The vehicle that Chenevert was observed operating had a license plate that was registered to another vehicle, no insurance as required by Louisiana Law, and Chenevert’s Louisiana Driver’s License was found to be under suspension. Chenevert was transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.

Alexis Nino, 24 years of age, address: West Green Jay, Pharr, TX., arrested on 07/12/2017 @ 3:55 a.m.

Charges: Aggravated Assault

Fabian Reyes, 27 years of age, address: NK Center St. McAllen, TX., arrested on 07/12/2017 @ 3:55 a.m.

Charges: Simple Battery
                 Aggravated Assault

Patrol officers responded to a local motel in the area of LA 182 in regards to a disturbance. Officers arrived and reports indicated that Alexis Nino and Fabian Reyes were identified as suspects. Reyes allegedly struck the victim during the disturbance and threatened them with a knife. During the altercation, Nino allegedly threatened the victim with a chair. Nino and Reyes were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated. These arrests are connected to the same incident involving Gerardo Martinez Jr. as reported on yesterday’s arrest report.

Ronald Gibbs, 26 years of age, address: St. Amant St. Sorrento, La., arrested on 07/12/2017 @ 3:44 p.m.

Charges: Warrant: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
                 Warrant: Improper Turning

Ronald Gibbs was located and arrested in the area of South Railroad Ave. on active arrest warrants held by the Morgan City Police. The warrants stem from an investigation conducted by the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division in May of 2017 when a stop was initiated in the area of Ditch Ave due to an improper turn that was negotiated. Reports indicate that Ronald Gibbs was identified as the operator of the vehicle and was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation continued and warrants were prepared for Gibbs’ arrest. Gibbs was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Edward Chapman, 52 years of age, address: Glenwood St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 07/12/2017 @ 6:44 p.m.

Charges: Possession of Marijuana
                 Improper Turning

Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division observed a vehicle negotiate an improper turn in the area of Chennault St. A stop was initiated a stop was initiated in the area of James St. and reports indicate that Edward Chapman was identified as the operator of the vehicle. Chapman was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. Chapman was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Raul Neverez 07132017
Raul O. Nevarez, 54 years of age, address: Mallard St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 07/12/2017 @ 6:23 p.m.

Charges: Warrant: Simple Burglary

Raul O. Nevarez was located and arrested in the area of LA 182 on active arrest warrants held by the Morgan City Police. Nevarez was featured in Morgan City Police Departments “Most Wanted” yesterday. The warrant stems from an investigation conducted on July 3, 2017, by the Morgan City Police Department Patrol Division where officers responded to a business in the area of LA 182 in regards to a burglary. Reports indicate that the officer arrived and learned that a vehicle had been burglarized and items were missing. The investigation continued and Raul O. Nevarez was developed as a suspect. Evidence was obtained linking Nevarez to the crime. Warrants were prepared for Nevarez’s arrest. Nevarez was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Jerell A. Jones, 25 years of age, address: Red Cypress Rd. Patterson, La., arrested on 07/13/2017 @ 12:06 a.m.

Charges: Possession of Marijuana 2nd Offense
                 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
                 Switched License Plate
                 Improper Lane Usage
                 Flight from an Officer
                 Registration Required
                 No Insurance
                 Driving under Suspension
                 M.V.I. Required

A patrol officer observed a vehicle being operated in the area of LA 182. A registration check of that vehicle indicated that the license plate displayed belonged to another vehicle. The vehicle was also observed swerving within its lane cross the center and fog lines. According to reports, officers activated their emergency lights to initiate a stop.  The driver refused to stop traveling on US 90 and took the Bayou Bouef exit just east of Amelia, La. The St. Mary Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation. Upon exiting off the bridge the vehicle pulled into a parking lot of a business located on LA 662. Jerell A. Jones was identified as the operator of the vehicle and was taken into custody. Reports indicate that Jones was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The vehicle that Jones was operating was found to have no insurance as required by Louisiana Law, no registration, and no motor vehicle inspection. Jones’ Louisiana Driver’s License was found to be under suspension. Jones was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
