Morgan City Police Department Arrests Caregiver for Exploitation of an Infirm Person

On June 5, 2026, Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department arrested Yakira Miller, 22 years of age, of Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, in connection with an investigation involving the financial exploitation of an elderly victim.
The investigation began on June 1, 2026, after Morgan City Police Department detectives received a complaint regarding unauthorized charges made on the bank account of an elderly victim. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the victim is a resident of a local healthcare facility and was allegedly being exploited by a caregiver employed at that business.
Investigators determined that Miller had allegedly obtained private financial information belonging to the victim and used that information to make unauthorized transactions for her personal gain.
As a result of the investigation, Miller was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Exploitation of the Infirm
- Theft Under $1,000 (7 counts)
This investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional arrests and charges are possible as detectives continue to gather evidence and identify any additional victims or individuals involved.
