MCPD Arrest report for 10/23/2020

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour period the Morgan City Police Department responded 40 to calls for service. The following person(s) were arrested as a result beginning on 10/23/2020:

Joshua Jones, 33 years of age, Hwy 182 Morgan City, LA was arrested on 10/22/2020 at 6:58 pm

Charges: Warrant-Theft Under $1000.00
                 Fugitive from Hancock County Miss

Jones was arrested after officers spoke with him near Lake End Park and learned that Morgan City Police Department had warrants for his arrest for theft.  The warrants stemmed from a complaint in which Jones is accused of taking a bike from someone.  Once at Morgan City Police Department it was learned that Jones was wanted from Hancock County Mississippi for Theft. Jones was booked into the Morgan City Police Department.

MORGAN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE - MORGAN CITY Shooting near Lawerence Park

On October 21, 2020, Morgan City Police Department started an investigation after shots were fired on Third St. near Lawerence Park.  It was reported to officers that two different groups began to argue at during that time one of the suspects produced a handgun and fired at another subject, who then returned fire.  An off-duty Morgan City Police Department officer along with an off-duty Berwick Police Department officer who were nearby entered the park and determined that there was no one injured due to the park having numerous people at this time of day.  As responding patrol officers were arriving they were directed to a vehicle leaving the area which contained a possible suspect.  Officers were able to chase down that vehicle and stop it. Through the investigation, several suspects were developed by detectives.  Detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants for four subjects involved in the shooting.  The case is still under investigation.  The following arrest were made in relation to the case.  The investigation is still ongoing at this time. Chief James Blair would like to thank the local agencies who assited in the arrest of these suspects and the citizens of Morgan City for the help in this matter.

Casey Leonard was arrested after an investigation by detectives in which she was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana after a traffic stop.  Warrants were obtained for her arrest and she turned herself in to officers at Morgan City Police Department, where she was booked into the jail.

                 Warrant-Illegal use of CDS in the presence of persons under 17

Allen McPherson was arrested after officers responded to a call to remove him from a local hotel.  A warrants check showed that he had outstanding warrants.  The warrants came from an investigation into the use of illegal narcotics in which McPherson was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana in the presence of a subject under the age of 17.  McPherson was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking.
