MCPD Arrest Report 12/14/2017

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 29 calls for service. The following persons were arrested as a result beginning on 12/13/2017:

Leon Sylvester, 33 years of age, Address- Grizzaffi St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 12/13/2017 @ 4:06 pm.

Charge:  Telephone Harassment
                 Criminal Mischief- False Emergency

   The Morgan City Police Department Investigation Division along with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division received information that an individual, Leon Sylvester had been kidnapped and was being held hostage. According to reports, a witness had received a video of Sylvester and text messages from Sylvester, which led the witness to believe the incident was true. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the incident was a prank. Sylvester located unharmed, placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.


Melvin R. Prevot, 54 years of age, Address-Bush St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 12/13/2017 @ 9:48 pm.

Charge: Disturbing the Peace- Fistic Encounters

Denise M. Jansen, 62 years of age, Address-Bush St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 12/13/2017 @ 9:48 pm.

Keila E. Bell, 33 years of age, Address- Egle St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 12/13/2017 @ 9:48 pm.

Charge: Disturbing the Peace- Fistic Encounters

   Officers responded to a residence on Bush St. in regards to a disturbance. Officers arrived and spoke to an individual identified as Melvin Prevot.  According to reports, Prevot stated that he and the other individuals in the home, Denise Jansen and Keila Bell were having a verbal altercation, which later turned physical. Officers did observe evidence that an altercation had taken place. Reports indicate that Jansen and Bell had given the same statement as Prevot about the altercation. Prevot, Jansen, and Bell were all placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
