MCPD Detectives Investigate Shooting; Arrest One and One Wanted on Kidnapping Charges

Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division were investigating an alleged Kidnapping that has occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 27, 2018. While investigating the incident patrol officers and investigators with the Morgan City Police Department responded to the area of Laurel St. in regards to several gunshots being fired. Information was received of a black male subject fleeing the area. A description was obtained when investigators encountered the subject in the area of Franklin St. The subject fled from investigators and a foot chase ensued. Multiple Morgan City Police officers and Detectives,  both on and off duty,  with  assistance from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Department, apprehended Trajuan M. Pitts a short time later. 

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Pitts was approached by a black male subject who began to fire multiple shots. Pitts was not struck by gunfire but reports of a residence in the area were. The investigation continued and it was learned that at approximately 1:30 a.m. Pitts and Davonte Williams allegedly encountered the victim when they committed a battery on them and placed them in a trunk of a vehicle. The individual was transported to the Franklin area where they escaped capture and fled the area. The subject was later discovered by the Franklin Police Department and transported to Franklin Foundation for medical treatment. The investigation continued and evidence was uncovered linking Pitts and Williams to the Kidnapping portion of the investigation. Warrants were prepared for their arrest. Pitts was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated. 

The investigation into both of these incidents is still under ongoing. Two area schools were placed on a lockdown status as a precautionary measure to assure the safety of children and staff. It is unknown at this time if there is a possible link in regards to the Kidnapping and Shooting incidents. The Morgan City Police Department is asking anyone with information related to either of these incidents to please contact the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division @ (985)380-4605. Davonte Williams is currently wanted on Second Degree Kidnapping charges. Anyone knowing the whereabouts to Williams is urged to contact the Morgan City Police Department.
