MCPD Arrest Report 08/24/2018

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 47 calls for service. The following person(s) were arrested as a result beginning 08/23/2018:


Jewel E. Templet, 61 years of age, Address-Belanger St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 08/23/2018 @ 8:34 am.

Charge:  Possession of Marijuana
                Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
                Simple Battery
                Warrant- Failure to Pay Fines

   Officers responded to a residence on Belanger St. in regards to a disturbance. Officers arrived and Jewel Templet was identified as a suspect. According to reports, the victim stated that Templet committed a battery on him, after having a verbal altercation. A warrant check on Templet revealed she held an active warrant for the 6th Ward City Court. Officers also located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Templet’s possession. Templet was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.

Kyler Ross 08232018
Kyler A. Ross, 32 years of age, Address- Lawrence St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 08/23/2018 @ 9:12 pm.

Charge: Warrant- Domestic Abuse Battery
               Warrant- Criminal Damage to Property
               Warrant- Theft under $1000.00
               Warrant- Tampering with Electronic Monitoring Equipment
               Warrant- Criminal Damage to Property
                Warrant- Failure to Appear for Trial (2ct)

   Kyler Ross was transported from the Lafayette Parish Detention Center to the Morgan City Police Department for active warrants he held for the Morgan City Police Department and the 6th Ward City Court.  Ross’ warrants stem from an incident in May that alleges he tampered with an electrical meter and used $41.94 of electricity. Another incident in July alleges that Ross was involved in a domestic altercation and damaged the victim’s property. Ross was booked and incarcerated.


Deonte D. Harris, 20 years of age, Address- Lake Palourde Rd. Amelia, La. was arrested on 08/23/2018 @ 12:40 pm.

Charge: Warrant- Failure to Pay Probation Fees

   Deonte Harris was transported from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center to the Morgan City Police Department for an active warrant he held for the 6th Ward City Court. Harris was booked and incarcerated.


Cherri A. Pennison, 42 years of age, Address- Railroad Ave. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 08/23/2018 @ 1:14 pm.

Charge: Warrant- Drug Court

   Cherri Pennison was located on Railroad Ave. and placed under arrest for an active warrant she held for 16th Judicial District Court. Pennison was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.


Ryan P. Payton, 31 years of age, Address- Felterman Lane Patterson, La. was arrested on 08/23/2018 @ 3:12 pm.

Charge: Warrant- Failure to Pay Fines (3cts)

   Ryan Payton was stopped for a traffic violation on LA Hwy 182 and it was determined that he held active warrants for the 6th Ward City Court. Payton was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.


William K. Rawls, 56 years of age, Address- Carrol Dr. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 08/23/2018 @ 5:30 pm.

Charge: Hit and Run
               Carless Operation
               Driving Under Suspension
               Driving While Intoxicated 2nd Offense

      Officers responded to the area of LA Hwy 182 and Aycock St. in regards to a hit and run vehicle crash. Officers arrived and made contact with the victim. According to reports, the victim stated that another vehicle had crashed into the rear of his vehicle, while he had stopped waiting on another vehicle to turn. Suspect vehicle then fled the area. A description was given out and the vehicle was located on Martin Luther King Blvd. The driver of the vehicle was identified as William Rawls. Reports indicate that Rawls appeared intoxicated and he admitted to taking prescribed medication. Rawls was asked to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, in which he performed poorly. It was also determined that Rawls driver’s license was suspended. Rawls was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department. Once at the department, Rawls submitted to the chemical test for intoxication. Rawls yielded a .069 g%. Rawls was booked and incarcerated.
