MCPD Arrest Report 06/07/2017

Chief James F. Blair reports that over the last 24-hour reporting period the Morgan City Police Department responded to 35 calls for service. The following persons were arrested as a result, beginning on 06/06/2017:

Jack Canada, 62 years of age, address: Elaine St. Morgan City, La., arrested on 06/06/2017 @ 1:29 p.m.

Charges: Disturbing the Peace Intoxicated

Patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Greenwood St. in regards to a suspicious subject. According to reports officers arrived and Jack Canada was located. Canada was found to be in an intoxicated state. Canada was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Nicole Karpinski 06062017
Nicole E. Karpinski, 29 years of age, address: Hwy 182 Morgan City, La., arrested on 06/06/2017 @ 2:04 p.m.

Charges: Warrant: False Acquisition of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
                  Warrant: Doctor Shopping (3 counts)(St. Charles Parish S.O.)
                  Warrant: Theft (St. Charles Parish S.O.)
                  Driving under Suspension

On June 5, 2017, officers with the Morgan City Police Department Patrol Division responded to a local business on LA 70 in regards to a female attempting to acquire a Controlled Dangerous Substance with a false prescription. According to reports the female, who was identified as Nicole E. Karpinski, had left prior to the officer’s arrival. The officers obtained a description of Karpinski and the vehicle she departed the business in. On June 6, 2017, officers located the vehicle being operated in the area of East Blvd. A stop was initiated and Karpinski was located. It was found that Karpinski held three active arrest warrants through the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and her Louisiana Driver’s License was under suspended. Warrants were also prepared for Karpinski’s arrest in regards to the original incident being investigated. Karpinski was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.   

Damien Keller 06072017
Damien Keller, 33 years of age, address: homeless, arrested on 06/06/2017 @ 10:21 p.m.

Charges: Warrant: Purse Snatching
                  Warrant: Simple Battery
                  Warrant: Theft

Damien Keller was located and arrested in the area of Federal Ave. on active arrest warrants held by the Morgan City Police. The warrants stem from an investigation in which the victim alleges that Damien Keller approached them in the area of LA 70 and committed a battery, and taking a purse that was in their immediate control. Officers were unable to located Keller during the investigation and a warrant was prepared for his arrest. Keller was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Phillip Begnaud 06062017
Phillip Begnaud, 33 years of age, address: Fulton St. Shreveport, La., arrested on  06/06/2017 @ 8:35 p.m.

Charges:  Creation or Operation of a Clandestine Laboratory
                   Possession of Marijuana
                   Violation of Uniform CDS Law (Drug-Free Zone)
                   Turning Movements and Required Signals
                   Driving under Suspension
                   No Insurance

Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division observed a vehicle conduct an improper turn in the area of Sixth St. A stop was initiated and Phillip Begnaud was identified as the operator of the vehicle. Begnaud displayed signs of nervousness  According to reports, Begnaud’s Louisiana Driver’s License was found to be under suspension and the vehicle did not have insurance a required by Louisiana Law. Investigators located several different precursors connected to a Clandestine Laboratory to create Methamphetamine and suspected marijuana. Reports indicated that Begnaud admitted to attempting to manufacture Methamphetamine. The area where this incident had taken place was within a Drug-Free Zone. Begnaud was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
