     An officer patrolling the school zone area near Federal Ave. observed a speeding vehicle what was determined to be traveling at 45 mph in the area of an elementary school.  The vehicle was observed being driven in a reckless manner near pedestrians.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Elvin Melendez who was discovered to be operating a vehicle with no drivers license.  Melendez was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and released after posting a cash bond.

     Officers were dispatched to a Brashear Ave. pharmacy in regards to a female leaving kids inside a vehicle unattended.  Officers arrived to observe the vehicle in question improperly parked in a handicap parking spot.  According to report, the vehicle was unsecured  and found to contain two small infants in the rear seat of the vehicle.  The witness advised that an unknown female had asked the witness to watch the children and then walk inside the business.  Officers also received a seconed separate complaint in regards to a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner.  The suspects vehicle also fit the description of that vehicle as well.  Officers located the vehicle driver, Janna Gilmore inside the business.  Officers learned of several other witnesses who became concerned regarding the children's safety.  Officers, according to reports, found Gilmore to appear impaired, agitated and with slurred speed.  Officers secured the infants and released them to concerned family members.Gilmore was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.

     A patrolling officer observed Irvin Arce operating a vehicle in the area of Brashear Ave. and Fifth St.  The officer was aware that Arce did not possess a valid drivers license and stopped the vehicle to investigate.  The driver, Arce was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City and was placed under arrest.  A passenger, Walter Fowler was also found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward and Sixteenth Judicial District Courts.  Both were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where they were booked and incarcerated.

     Robert Mulligan was arrested after he appeared in the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City in an intoxicated condition.  Mulligan, was arrested and booked into the Morgan City jail facility where he remains incarcerated.

     Detective with the Morgan City Police Department observed a female, Jennifer Gonzales operating a vehicle in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near Allison St. and was aware that Gonzales did not possess a valid drivers license.  Detectives had  also received information that Gonzales was involved in the illegal sales of narcotics in the Morgan City area.  Investigators detained the vehicle and Gonzales and learned of outstanding warrants from Terrrebone Parish authorities.  During the stop and subsequent investigation, officers recovered a large amount of crack and powder cocaine from the vehicle as well as several pills identified as Oxycodone, both Schedule II substances.  Also recovered by investigators was $762.00 In U.S. Currency along with paraphernalia and scale used to divide narcotics for sale.  Gonzales was placed under arrest and gathered statements and evidence that indicated that the narcotics was destined for sale in the area by Gonzales and that some of the currency located was derived from previous transactions.  Jennifer Gonzales was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated with no bond yet set.

     Officers located Patricia Ryan at a Highway 182 supermarket and placed her under arrest on outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department.  Ryan was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.

MCPD Shooting Update 02/09/2015

     On February 06, 2015 at approximately 4:56pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 5000 block of Railroad Ave. Officers learned that at least two suspects fired several shots from a handgun in the direction of a residence at that location.  At least one person inside the residence was the victim of a grazing type wound to the head.  That victim was transported to a medical facility, was treated and later released.  Detectives recovered at (11) eleven shell casings from a 9mm weapon.  Investigators developed at least two suspects and a description of a vehicle involved.  
     During the investigation, a named suspect, Kevin J. Drexler of New Iberia, La. reported to the Morgan City Jail facility to serve a sentence on unrelated charges from a prior incident.  Detectives were able to contact New Iberia Parish Sheriffs Department who located a vehicle fitting the description of the vehicle involved in the New Iberia area.  Detectives from the Morgan City Police Department with the assistance of investigators from Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department conducted a search warrant at the Julia St. residence where they located a second suspect, Kimberly Thompson.  Investigators were able to recover evidence connecting the female with the Railroad Ave.shooting.  It was learned through statements that Kevin Drexler had fired several shots from a 9mm handgun at the Railroad Ave. residence while he was seated in the rear of the vehice, while seated next to small children.  Kimberly Thompson is accused of driving the vehicle involved.  Iberia Parish authorities arrested Kimberly Thompson on other charges including drugs and possession of a stolen weapon.  Morgan City Police investigators secured an arrest warrant for Kimberly Thompson charging her with Principal to Attempted First Degree Murder, Principal to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Assault by Drive by Shooting, Felony Contributing to the Deliquency of a Juvenile for her involvement in the Railroad Ave. shooting. She remains incarcerated in the New Iberia Parish Jail facility.
     Investigators returned to the Morgan City jail facility where they confronted Kevin Drexler, however he declined to cooperate with investigators.  An arrest warrant was obtained for the arrest of Kevin Drexler.  He was booked into the Morgan City Jail facility with a bond set at $300,000.  The investigation is continuing.  If anyone has any additional information regarding this incident, please contact the Morgan City Police Department @ 985-384-2310, 911 or your local law enforcement agency.

      Officers were dispatched to the area of Federal Ave. and Marshall St. in regards to a subject sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle in the roadway.  Officers arrived to locate the vehicle and observed the driver, Sherell Brown sleeping behind the wheel of a running vehicle.  The driver was detained and found to be in a reportedly impaired condition.  Brown was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for the Morgan City Police Department.  She submitted to a field sobriety test which she did poorly on according to report.  Sherell Brown was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was provided an Intoxilyzer 5000 test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .176g%.  She was booked and incarcerated.

     Officers were dispatched to the area of La. Hwy 70 in regards to a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner.  Officers arrived and located the suspect vehicle and upon attempting to stop the vehicle, officers observed the vehicle strike the curb and continue in an erratic manner before coming to a stop.  Officers located the driver, Benjamin Blackman who was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended drivers license.  Blackman was also found to be operating a vehicle with expired registration.  Officers uncovered evidence from a cell phone found inside the vehicle that the driver may have been engaged in a video game while on his cell phone at the time of the stop.  He was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and released after posting a cash bond.

     Officers were dispatched to Teche Regional regarding a subject causing a disturbance.  Officers arrived to find a male, Norman Carter causing a disturbance in the ER area of the facility.  Carter was found to be in an impaired condition and subsequently placed under arrest.  He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and later released after posting a cash bond.

     Officers were dispatched to a vehicle crash in the area of La. 182 near La. Hwy 70.  While enroute, officers were advised that one driver involved was attempting to leave the scene on foot.  Officers arrived in the area and detained the suspect, Hugo Zabala.  During the investigation, it was learned that Zabala was accused of operating a vehicle in the wrong lane of travel striking another vehicle in a head on collision.  Zabala, who appeared impaired was given a field sobriety test which he did poorly on.  He was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail facility where he was given an Intoxilyzer 5000 test which indicted a blood alcohol concentration of .244g%.  Zabala, who did not possess a valid drivers license was booked and incarcerated.

     A patrolling officer observed a vehicle being operated with no headlights on Highway 182 and followed the vehicle to speak with the driver.  The officer observed the vehicle fail to negotiate a stop sign at Seventh St. and Ditch Ave. and stopped the vehicle.  The driver, David Brown was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City.  Brown, who could not produce a current drivers license was found to be in a suspected impaired condition and was given a field sobreity test which he did poorly on.  Brown, upon his arrest, was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he refused the Intoxilyzer 5000 test and was booked and incarcerated.

     Officers were dispatched to Victor II Blvd. in regards to a reckless driver.  Officers located the suspect vehicle and detained the driver, Raul A. Salazar-Saravia who was found to be in a reported imparied condition.  Saravia was ultimately arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .188 g%.  He was booked and incarcerated.

     Officers were dispatched to a local motel regarding a domestic battery.  Officers arrived a located a female victim who advised that she was involved in a domestic arguement at a Filmore St. residence and that Tony Dupre had committed a battery.  Officers observed several marks which cooberated her statement of events.  Officers went to the Filmore St. residence where they located Tony Dupre who confirmed the arguement but denied having committed a battery on the victim.  Based on the victims statements and physical evidence, Dupre was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.

     Officers were dispatched to the Second St. area regarding a reckless driver. Officers arrived to find the vehicle described stopped in the roadway.  The vehicle was detained and the driver, Darrien Kiel was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended drivers license.  Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana eminating from the vehicle and began in an investigation. During the subsequent investigation, it was learned that the four had consumed marijuana prior to the incident.  During a search of the vehicle, officers located pill bottle containing Vyvance, a Schedule II CDS along with a celophane bag which contained suspected marijuana. .  The subjects were placed under arrest.  On passenger, Tredarius Williams was found to be in possession of Hydrocodone, a Schedule III controlled substance.  All four suspects were transported to the Morgan City Police Department where they were booked and incarcerated.

     A patrolling officer observed a speeding vehicle on La. Hwy 182 and determined that the vehicles speed was 57mph in a 45mph zone.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Orlando Ramkhalawan who was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended drivers license.  Ramkhalawan was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and released after posting a cash bond.

     A patrolling officer observed a speeding vehicle traveling on Highway 182 and determined the vehicle to be traveling in excess of the posted speed limit even after the officer observed the driver of the vehicle attempt to slow down upon seeing the police unit.  The vehicle was stopped and according to the the report, the driver,  Brad Derouen was oberved attempting to conceal an item in the seat of the vehicle.  The driver, Derouen was identified and appeared extremely nervous.  A narcotics K-9 was deployed and indicated the presence of odor of illegal substance in the vehicle.  The driver admitted to officers that he possessed a "Pipe" inside the vehicle.  The officer recovered a pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.  The subject, Brad Derouen was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and later released after posting a cash bond.

     Raymond Soumellian was arrested by officers after they were dispatched to the area of Fifth St. and Greenwood St. regarding an intoxicated subject.  Soumellian was located and found to be impaired, barely able to stand on his own and partially clothed.  Soumellian was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.

     Officers responded to a minor vehicle crash near the intersection of Federal Ave. and Railroad Ave.  A driver of a vehicle involved, Eric Albany was discovered to be operating a vehicle with a supsended drivers license.  Albany was also charged with careless operation of a moveable with an accident.  He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated. He was released after posting a cash bond.

     Officers were dispatched to a S. Railroad residence regarding a disturbance.  Officers arrived and were advised by a female victim that she was struck in the face by Brenda Gordon.  Officers located Gordon who admitted to officers that she did indeed strike the victim in the face.  Gordon was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.  She was later released after posting a cash bond.

     Officers located Germany Broussard at a Leona St. residence and placed him under arrest on an outstanding warrant for the City Court of Morgan City.  He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and released after posting a cash bond.

     Officers were dispatcheed to an Adams St. regarding a disturbance.  Officers arrived and learned from witnesses that a female, Kourtney Jessie had came to the residence and during a disturbance, threw a brick through a window, damaging the front window of the residence.  Deputies with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office located the suspect's vehicle in the Bayou Vista area and detained her for the Morgan City Police Department.  Jessie was located and subsequently placed under arrest for the damages.  She was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.
